Location
The Antico Casale Ruoppo is located between the Amalfi Coast and the Sorrento Peninsula, overlooking the hills of the coast. From there you can enjoy a wonderful view of the open sea of the Gulf of Salerno and the Area Marina Protetta of Punta Campanella with its famous islands of Li Galli and Vetara.
Antico Casale Ruoppo is placed on a hill about 300m high over sea-level, the building is surrounded by a 5000m2 garden area where - among olive trees, wine yards, and vegetable gardens - lawns invite to a sun bath and the regionally typical pergolas create shadow-fresh spots. The smooth wind blowing constantly from the sea keeps temperatures comfortable up here even during the hottest weeks of the summer.
The premises of Antico Casael Ruoppo are accessible from the public road by a 800m long narrow street. Due to this secluded location it is recommended have a car. Who is good at walking can also reach the SITA-bus stop in Sant´Agata sui due Golfi downtown by foot (1km).
The main beaches on both shores of the Sorrentinian Peninsula are 10 to 15 minutes by car from Antico Casale Ruoppo, e.g. the beach of Marina del Cantone (Nerano) with its crystal-blue waters, where you can supplement your beach activities with a boat trip along the coast, a walk over the cliffs or a savoury sea-food dish on a terrace over the shore.
From Marina del Cantone there are daily excursions by boat direct to Capri, Positano, Amalfi and Ischia and it is possible to rent a boat with or without skipper.
Easily accessible, also the beach of Marina di Puolo with her typical seaside restaurants.
At 1.5 km from Sant'Agata sui due Golfi downtwon, and 300 m from the village of Torca (the latter easy to be reached by foot), the ancient farmhouse is the ideal starting point for those who want explore the major tourist attractions of the peninsula.
The apartments are located app. 10 km from Positano and 7 km from Sorrento the latter being well connected by public transport facilities to the main sites of interest of the region. From Sorrento, there are regular services of ferries and hydrofoil to the islands of Capri and Ischia and to Naples as well as local trains to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplonti and Naples. A network of local busses (SITA) links Sant´Agata to Sorrento and to the villages of the Sorrento Peninsula and Amalfitan Coast: Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, and a swift-boat express, the so-called metro del mare runs several times a day from Sorrento along the coast of the Gulfs of Naples and Salerno.
Who likes walking and rambling can join the beaches directly from Antico Casale Ruoppo by a locally rather steep panorama path passing the Chapel dei Santi Pietro e Paolo and leading to the Baia di Crapolla (app. 40 minutes). In the opposite direction, the same path joins a network of labelled rambling paths maintained by the Italian Alpine Club that encompasses the whole Sorrentinian Peninsula. Highly recommend are the Path of the Gods, The Bay of Ieranto, Punta della Campanella, Monte San Costanzo, The Path of Recommone.
A 15-minute walk away is also the Pinewood of Tore, perfect for walking, jogging, or even take a ride on a mountain bike!
